Kauri Coast Legend Initiative
Our initiative is to inspire young people by showing that you can come from a small town and still achieve great things and to create a scholarship fund for youth from west Kaipara.
The DCDB is inviting nationally or internationally recognized people (aka Kauri Coast Legends) with a connection to Dargaville to support our initiative and to inspire youth to reach their full potential.
Who is a Kauri Coast Legend?
A Kauri Coast Legend is a person with a connection to the small rural area of Dargaville and the Kauri Coast who is recognised on the national or international stage - people who are high achievers. Kauri Coast Legends represent all sectors eg arts, medicine, research, music, sport, and politics.
Annual Event
This initiative is an annual event with two components. The first is a Community Festival which will allow the community, especially our young people, to meet and interact with the Kauri Coast Legends in a festival type atmosphere. We are working with the Kaipara Tamariki Collective to create a fun family day with stalls, activities and food vendors. This event will be free to the public and community organisations providing stalls, activities and food vendors may choose to charge a small amount to cover their costs.
The second component is a Gala Dinner with a guest chef, a master of ceremonies and a guest speaker/s. This is a sponsored event where prominent locals and community representatives will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with the Kauri Coast Legends at the pre dinner drinks, and during the three course meal. The funds raised from the Gala Dinner, together with the proceeds from a Silent Auction, will contribute to a fund which will be available to assist our youth towards their goals to become a Kauri Coast Legend of the future. This fund will be managed by the Dargaville Community Development Board with an application process which includes several Kauri Coast Legends in the decision.

We have several ways in which you can become a sponsor/contributor to assist with the setting up of the event and the creation of the Kauri Coast Legends Fund.
We are excited to be able to welcome home our Kauri Coast Legends and to provide the opportunity for you to meet our young people and to connect with our community at two special events. We appreciate that you are very busy and thank you for taking the time to share your experiences that have led you to your place on the national or international stage.
The Kauri Coast Legends Initiative is a fund raising event to create the Kauri Coast Legends Fund to support local youth to aspire to become the Kauri Coast Legends of the future, we ask that you contribute to the Fund, as set out below. All funds received from Kauri Coast Legend Supporters will be placed in the Kauri Coast Legend Fund to support our young people on their way to achieving great things.

Our event would not be possible without your sponsorship. There are several levels for sponsorship from naming rights of three events, or three Gala Dinner courses, to smaller contributions. All of the funding received from our sponsors will contribute to the cost of hosting the Kauri Coast Legends events.

We are holding a Silent Auction to contribute to the Kauri Coast Legends Fund. We are reaching out to the wider Northland community for high caliber items which can be included in out Silent Auction being held at the Gala Dinner. At the Gala Dinner every place setting will include a Silent Auction Card listing the Auction items together with the donors name. We will also have a display of items in the Silent Auction where you will be acknowledged for your contribution.
We see this as a way to acknowledge our beautiful Northland region and to inspire Kauri Coast Legends and invited guests to experience all that Northland has to offer.
